PROGRAM COORDINATORS
|
 |
Katy Lackey, Program Coordinator - Malawi, India. Katy Lackey graduated in 2007
from Santa Clara University with degrees in Psychology
and Religious Studies and a minor in Anthropology. Her
volunteer experience in Malawi prompted her to join the
World Camp team as a Program Coordinator, beginning with
the 2008 India Program. She hopes to use these
experiences and her passion for working with
environmental issues, children and adolescents,
homelessness and poverty, and human rights and gender
issues to expand the World Camp curriculum, programs,
and overall volunteer experience. Of the many things
that brought Katy to work with World Camp, she is
particularly inspired by the incredible potential of
young people coming together and the approach World Camp
takes to empower both participants and volunteers to
create a better, more sustainable, and more just world.
She also cannot get enough of the Banana Song during
morning games at camp. Aside from World Camp, Katy's
favorite things to do include traveling, hiking,
skiing/snowboarding, studying Buddhism and other
religions, drinking tea, yoga, trying new foods, and
learning to become ambidextrous. Katy coordinates both
Malawi and India programs. |

Bishakha Shome, Local Coordinator-India.
Bishakha holds a Master's Degree in Textile Design and
History from Santiniketan, Viswabharati University in
India. It was during her time in this bohemian
atmosphere that fueled her intense interest in
environmental conservation and ecological balance.
Presently she is pursuing her Double Masters in Public
Administration and Environmental Management. She is a
founding member of Land and its People (LAIP) an
organization dealing with Craft Cluster Development and
self sustainability for local artisans. Bishakha is
actively involved with Judy Frater's Kala Raksha
Vidyalaya, a Design Institute for Artisans, based in
Kutch, India. She has also served as the Gujarat
Representative for the Campaign Against Climate Change
(a UK-based NGO). She joined the World Camp team in
2008 as the Local Coordinator in India. Without a doubt,
Bishakha has captured the
hearts of all World Camp India volunteers! Aside from
her volunteering and studying, Bishakha loves exploring
sustainable living and its effect on health, nutrition,
people and the environment. |

Jaren Folden, Program Coordinator - Malawi. Jaren served as a World Camp volunteer for the Summer of 2008. Since graduating from Ryerson University in 2009 with a Communications degree and English minor, Jaren has returned to World Camp as a Program Coordinator. Since then, our Canadian Ambassador has dedicated his time and effort to expanding our programming in Malawi and our volunteer outreach north of the US/Canada border. Jaren's inspiration for our work is driven by the immense potential and accomplishment that a group of young adults have when they come together with common goals. With a deep personal investment in the HIV/ AIDS epidemic, and a long history of working with young people in student governments and on different athletic organizations, he firmly believes that volunteers are the ones who make World Camp's work possible. Jaren's friendly and enthusiastic personality has helped volunteers focus their passion and determination into active participation and contribution to improving the world around them. Most importantly, Jaren has been known to rock one of World Camp's most memorable "Boom Chicka Boom's" during morning songs. |

Rachel Dudasik, Program Coordinator - Malawi. Rachel graduated from Appalachian State University in 2009 with a degree in Third World (Development) Studies and Sustainable Development. Her interest in experiential learning led her to study in Cuzco, Peru in 2007 where she worked in a local women's shelter. Rachel started with World Camp as an intern in the spring of 2009, working on volunteer development for the Honduras Program and continued with WC as a volunteer during the summer of 2009 in Malawi. Most recently, Rachel worked with United Way of Asheville-Buncombe County as a Loaned Executive, fundraising for the annual campaign. A native of Western North Carolina, Rachel enjoys the land of the pines, painting, and cooking. She plans on pursuing a Master's degree in Public Health. |
